Ben Z. Rose is the author of John Stark: Maverick General, a portrait of the controversial Patriot commander.

The book was chosen by ForeWord Magazine as a Book of the Year finalist for best biography.

A new book, Mother of Freedom, tells the story of Mum Bett, a black slave from Western Massachusetts, who was among the first American slaves to gain her freedom through the courts.

Rose and his writing have been featured in the Union Leader, Concord  Monitor, and the Boston Globe. He lives near Boston, where he is surrounded by reminders of 18th century New England.
